Today I'm going to give you an overview of House Hacker University, the latest course from REtipster.

Jaren Barnes spent the better part of a year putting this content together and he did a remarkable job of capturing the essence of how to execute a successful house hack.

Why did we choose to create a course on this subject? There are a few reasons:

  • House hacking has always been a popular strategy for both new and experienced real estate investors. It's a brilliant want to monetize your home and we felt it was worthy of our time to create some useful information on the subject.
  • There are plenty of books and blog posts that cover the basics of house hacking, but we wanted to bring the instruction to the next level, so that's what we did!
  • As an online information hub for real estate investors, we wanted to provide some comprehensive, “meaty” information about how to tackle this kind of project.
  • In an effort to continue diversifying our content further, we wanted to focus on another niche (outside of land investing) where our team had some legitimate expertise.

If you have no interest in house hacking, then this course obviously isn't for you… but if you are trying to be smart about using your limited resources to get a house that pays you each month and actually becomes an asset instead of a liability, then this is probably something you should check out!

What to Expect

Who This Course Is For

If you are trying to be smart about using your limited financial resources to buy a 2-4 unit residential building that serves as your home AND pays you each month (so it actually becomes an asset instead of a liability), then then it's for you!

Who This Course Isn't For

If you have no interest in using your home to create additional streams of income, whether to supplement your housing payment or financing your lifestyle, then this course probably isn't for you.

Likewise, if you are trying to buy a much larger multi-family property (like an apartment building with 5 or more units), the financing module of this course will become less relevant. When a property exceeds 4 units, most banks will look at the property as “commercial financing” and as such, most of the financing rules and requirements will change.

That being said, most of the fundamental information about managing your property and handling renovations will still be useful, but it's worth noting, the course was designed with the assumption that you'll be pursuing a 2-4 unit property.

Jump In!

Speaking for myself, this information would have been extremely helpful for me back when I was seriously considering the house hacking strategy (long before it was ever known as “house hacking”). This strategy is nothing new, but there is A LOT of insider knowledge that you can learn in one of two ways

  1. By taking this course and becoming keenly aware of all the important details and pitfalls you should be watching out for.
  2. By going in with no experience and learning lessons the hard way.

If you're the type who is careful, analytical and you aren't afraid to talk to people and get your hands dirty, I am confident that you can succeed as a house hacker either way.

If you'd rather have someone there to point out all the important areas you should be focusing on as you embark on this journey, this course is an extremely small investment for the value you'll get out of it, and the potential mistakes you can save yourself from.
